Coats for Kids collects 217 coats

The annual Coats for Kids drive in Nodaway County is now complete.

Nodaway County Prosecuting Attorney Robert Rice coordinated the effort and says more than 200 coats were donated.

"We had 217 coats that were donated by the graciousness of the folks in Nodaway County.  I want to thank all my teammates, law enforcement officers, schools and churches throughout Nodaway County that agreed to put a bid out to collect coats, to encourage their folks to donate coats that they no longer need.  Because of all that, we were able to put together 42 bags full of coats."

Rice says the number of coats donated was similar to past years, which he calls outstanding.

"When you hit that well once, you get a pretty good result.  But after that, people have kind of given their coats already.  So it's hard to duplicate that amount.  So the fact that we were able to duplicate that number of coats through all this is a big success, because a lot of folks out there have already donated coats.  We wanted to reach out again, ask again please if you don't have a coat you don't need, to please donate it.  So the fact that we were able to duplicate it was just outstanding."

The coats are going to Community Services, which will distribute them to anyone in need. Coats are available for both kids and adults.
